Dog Toy Safety & Care
Page content
Safer playtime with your dog
Choose toys to suit your dog's size, age and chewing habits. No toy is indestructible, and supervision matters, even with familiar favourites.
Choose the right toy
- Follow the size recommendations and instructions supplied with each product.
- Avoid toys small enough for your dog to swallow whole.
- Use toys only for their intended purpose. A play or enrichment toy is not necessarily suitable for prolonged chewing.
Supervise play
Watch your dog when introducing a new toy and during play. Remove the toy if your dog starts breaking it apart, pulling out stuffing or loosening small pieces. Put toys away when playtime is over unless the manufacturer's instructions specifically allow unsupervised use.
Check for wear
Inspect toys before and after use. Replace any toy that is torn, cracked, frayed or shedding pieces. Keep damaged toys out of reach.
Cleaning and storage
Follow the care instructions for each product. Do not assume every toy is dishwasher-safe or machine-washable. Let cleaned toys dry fully before giving them back to your dog, and store them away from heat and sharp objects.
If something goes wrong
If your dog swallows part of a toy, appears to be choking or shows signs of illness or discomfort, contact a veterinarian promptly. For a choking emergency, seek immediate veterinary help.
